House of Northern Senses is a family-owned retreat created from a passion for nature, wellbeing and authentic Northern living.
When we first discovered this historic lakeside manor in the heart of the Ruka–Kuusamo region, we immediately felt there was something special about the place. Surrounded by forests, clean lakes, changing seasons and the peaceful rhythm of nature, it offered exactly the kind of experiences that many modern travelers are searching for but rarely find.
Our vision was to create more than a place to stay.
Today, House of Northern Senses brings together authentic Finnish hospitality, sauna culture, Nordic gastronomy and carefully curated Arctic experiences in an environment where guests can slow down, reconnect with nature and spend meaningful time with the people who matter most.

A Place with a Story
Originally built in 1954 as the village school of Virkkula, the manor later served for nearly five decades as a training and retreat venue for Finnair, Finland's national airline.
Today, the carefully restored manor continues its story as House of Northern Senses, welcoming guests from around the world to experience the beauty, hospitality and wellbeing of Finnish Lapland.
